Anita Sutton - Boatshed Grenada
I discovered Tall Ship sailing aboard the Jubilee Sailing Trust's STS Lord Nelson in my twenties, and met seasoned sailor Mark aboard in the Canaries in 1995. We cast off from the River Hamble in June 1998 in our Golden Hind 31 ‘Rachel Kathryn’, arriving in the Caribbean in January 1999. A few months Caribbean cruising, then a couple of years running crewed charter boats led us to settle in Grenada.
17 years later with two sons, two dogs, two cats and twelve chickens we are still happily in Grenada owning and running Island Dreams, a yacht management and maintenance company based at Port Louis Marina in St Georges.
Island Dreams leads me to be involved in all aspects of yachting here – hurricane season storage, repairs, refits, chartering and regattas. We have loved watching, and being part of, the development and growth of the yachting industry in Grenada with marinas, boatyards, services and support now available far beyond what was here in 1999.
Most importantly for me, the yachting industry in Grenada brings us into contact with people from all over the world with their own stories to tell, and I love the variety of my days.
