Mark Sutton - Boatshed Grenada
My passion for sailing began at the age of 7 when my family moved to Weymouth, Dorset. My early adventures were in a Heron 10’ sailing dinghy based at Castle Cove Sailing Club in Portland Harbour. Subsequently, when my father bought a Nicholson 26, we cruised the UK’s South Coast, Channel Islands and France. After my first RYA course, I discovered the joys of navigation - arriving at the destination planned - all this before the advent of GPS, of course!
In 1991 I trained at the International Boatbuilding College in Lowestoft. After working on projects in Italy and Maine, and with the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s STS Tenacious build in Southampton, in 1998/9 I fulfilled a long-held dream to cross the Atlantic on my own boat, a Golden Hind 31. Together with my partner, Anita, after arriving in the West Indies, we worked for The Moorings charter company for two years, running a Jeanneau 50’, taking guests sailing in the Eastern Caribbean.
When our first son was born, Anita and I moved to Grenada. We bought an existing yacht management and maintenance company in Grenada - Island Dreams. We weathered Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and have seen increased numbers of yachts here each year. We are based at Port Louis Marina and Clarkes Court Boatyard and use our experience here to provide the best services we can to our clients.
