About Richard Johnson

I joined the Boatshed Grenada team in January 2022.

What did you do before working with Boatshed?
I first entered the yachting world professionally about 20 years ago as a refit specialist - something that I found easy to transfer from my land-based skillsets. This I did for about 10 years on and off in the UK, France, Spain and Germany, where I worked at the Lurssen yard in Bremen. After obtaining my commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore (motor) in 2006, I found myself doing deliveries, both motor and sail, in the Med and Arabian Seas.

I got my calling to the Caribbean in 2011, when I was encouraged to get involved with a Saint Lucia based charter company. This led to becoming Director of Dream Yacht Charter Grenada in 2013 when I established the new Grenada base with 3 boats...which quickly became 37 within 4 years! A busy charter base takes it's toll after a while, I moved on in 2018, briefly assisting another charter business whilst setting up my own general yacht consultancy here in Grenada, which includes a discount marine chandlers called Treasure Trove.

What attracted you to become part of the Boatshed team?
I'm looking forward to working with Boatshed because of the synergy with my present activities and being able to put my vast accumulation of boat knowledge to good use. Boatshed is going to be the jewel in my portfolio moving forward.

Are you a motorboater or a sailor?
Sailor

What is your most memorable boating experience?
I've owned and Skippered many motor yachts, but the tens of thousands of sea miles under my belt have largely been under sail. The Caribbean is a great area to cruise in and I've been fortunate to see most places between the BVI and Grenada. My favourite sailing here is solo deliveries between the islands at night....simply wonderful.
